Passengers feel safe in autonomous minibus

As many as 80% of passengers who participated in the tests of the autonomous vehicle rated their sense of security during the journeys very highly. This is according to an initial summary of the research, carried out by a team from the University of Silesia. The surveys were carried out between November and December, among passengers who had ridden in the Blees BB-1 vehicle. The highest ratings regarding the sense of security were reported by people aged 60+.

The surveys were carried out during pilot runs that took place in autumn on Akademicka Street in Gliwice. More than 10% of the 2,799 passengers took part in the survey (N=293). Respondents were asked to consider 40 issues, assessing, among other things, the experience of the journey, the comfort of the ride, the appearance of the vehicle, the readability of messages and the sense of security. According to the last criterion, the average rating in the group of people over 60 was 9/10. This compares with a rating of 8.4/10 among passengers aged 18-29. The average rating in this area was 8.5, which confirms the high sense of security among those participating in the autonomous vehicle pilot courses. It is noteworthy that a rating above 8 (high sense of security) was given by nearly 80% of the respondents.

The survey also asked about the qualities of autonomous transport. Respondents were asked to rate on a scale of 1-7, where the lowest rating (1) means strongly disagree, and the highest (7) means strongly agree with the statement. Passengers considered autonomous transport to be necessary (rating 6/7), justified (6/7) and rather environmentally friendly (5.5/7).

Approximately 70% of respondents also believe that an autonomous bus will drive better than the average driver.

The partial results from the surveys of passengers who had ridden in the Blees BB-1 vehicle confirm a high level of confidence in this means of transport and positive feelings towards modern technology. The full assessment and conclusions of the survey will be published in a report prepared by a team from the University of Silesia, which will compare the obtained results with research carried out on passengers of traditional means of public transport.

We will be publishing further data from the survey via social media channels in the near future.
